On February 4th the 2022 Winter Olympics will commence in Beijing after an opening ceremony presided by Xi Jinping. The Olympic Charter declares that games exist to promote “a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity”, but the choice to allow the People’s Republic of China to host the games in 2022 makes a travesty of those values. These Olympics are to be held in the country currently, among other things, violating the basic human rights of the Uyghur people in East Turkestan and Mongolians, oppressing the populations of Tibet and Hong Kong, as well as silencing regime critics by the use of force.

IFLRY addresses the global community with an open letter that calls for a global diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. We call on athletes around the world to condemn the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and to raise global awareness of these issues, and we call on our member organizations to promote a diplomatic boycott of the games by their governments.

Within the next week, we will run a campaign dedicated to raising awareness about human rights violations in China and how China blocks countries on the international stage. Follow our Twitter account and check our posts to be informed and join the campaign. We call all human rights activists and members of the global liberal family to spread the information and boycott Olympic Games 2022!
